This biography from 1908 ranks as the best boxing tale in my collection. Bat Nelson - or Oscar Mathias Nielsen - as he was born tells his story from rags to riches with a lot of humor.
His excellent memoirs also contains Jack Londons fight report from Bats fight with James Edward Britt. It's also jammed with photos and Tad's funny drawings. Alas, the old warrior ended his life on dead end street like so many other fighters from the golden era of boxing.
